Frequency capping limits how many times a single person sees your ad over a set period. It is the guardrail that keeps a campaign from tipping over from present into pestering — protecting both budget and goodwill.
Count exposures. The system tracks how often each person sees the ad.
Set the cap. You define a limit per day, week or campaign.
Enforce it. Delivery stops serving once the cap is hit.
Reset over time. The count clears as the window rolls.
Reach vs repetition. Spreading spend across more people.
Memorability. Enough exposure to be remembered.
Fatigue. Not so much that the ad annoys.
Efficiency. Avoiding wasted repeat impressions.
Protects goodwill. It stops ads becoming irritating.
Saves budget. It avoids overpaying to reach the same people.
Extends reach. Capped spend spreads to new audiences.
Cross-device gaps. Caps can miss the same person on another screen.
Walled gardens. Capping across platforms is hard.
Setting the number. Too low limits impact; too high wastes spend.
Measurement. True frequency is hard to see whole.
