Budget Optimisation

Determine where additional spend creates value and where reductions are needed.

Overview

Budget optimisation is the ongoing discipline of moving money towards what is working and away from what is not. This workflow helps you decide where additional spend will create incremental value, where budgets are being wasted, and how to redistribute a fixed or growing pot across campaigns, ad groups and channels. Rather than guessing, you let OpenAds analyse recent performance, model the likely impact of each change, and prepare a concrete reallocation you can review line by line.

The outcome is a clear, evidence-backed proposal: a set of budget increases, decreases and pauses, each tied to a metric that justifies it and an expected effect. Nothing moves until you approve it. You end up with more efficient spend, protected headroom on your best performers, and a documented rationale you can share with stakeholders or revisit when results come in.

When to use it

Reach for this workflow whenever the relationship between spend and results has drifted, or when the amount of money available has changed. It is equally useful for trimming waste and for deploying new budget with confidence.

  • You have additional budget to deploy and want to place it where returns are strongest.

  • Overall spend is flat but some campaigns are capped while others underdeliver.

  • Cost per acquisition or return on ad spend has moved outside your target range.

  • A monthly or quarterly planning cycle requires a fresh allocation.

  • Seasonality, a promotion or a market shift has changed which campaigns deserve priority.

Example prompts

  • "I have ₹1,50,000 extra this month — show me where it would create the most value."

  • "Which campaigns are capped by budget but still under my ₹700 CPA target?"

  • "Find spend that isn't converting and propose reductions to fund my top performers."

  • "Rebalance my ₹6,00,000 monthly budget to protect a 4.0 ROAS."

  • "Where can I cut ₹50,000 without losing meaningful conversions?"

  • "Compare last 30 days to the prior 30 and recommend budget shifts by campaign."

  • "Draft a reallocation that moves budget from Search Generic into Brand and Shopping."

What OpenAds prepares vs what you approve

OpenAds performs the analysis — pulling metrics, spotting constrained winners and inefficient spend, and modelling impact — and then assembles a proposal of specific budget changes with the reasoning attached. It does not move a single rupee on its own. Every increase, decrease or pause is held for your approval, so you decide exactly what proceeds. Only once you approve does OpenAds handle execution against the live ad platforms. This separation means the AI can work quickly and thoroughly while you retain full control over what actually spends money.

Common pitfalls & best practices

  • Don't judge on spend alone. A high-spend campaign is not automatically wasteful — check it against CPA and ROAS before cutting.

  • Respect statistical significance. Avoid reallocating on a handful of conversions; wait for enough volume to trust the signal.

  • Move budget in measured steps. Large sudden shifts disrupt bidding algorithms; increment and observe rather than swinging hard.

  • Keep commercial context in view. Margin, stock levels and strategic priorities are things the data cannot see — apply them at the approval stage.

  • Always schedule a review. Compare actual outcomes to the modelled impact so each round of optimisation informs the next.

The workflow, step by step

  1. Set the objective and guardrails. State your target metric (for example ₹800 CPA or 4.0 ROAS), the total budget available, and any campaigns that must not be touched.

  2. Pull recent performance. OpenAds gathers spend, conversions, cost per result and budget utilisation across the account for a comparable, statistically meaningful window.

  3. Identify constrained winners. Find campaigns hitting their daily cap while still delivering efficient results — these are candidates for more budget.

  4. Identify inefficient spend. Flag campaigns above your cost threshold, with thin conversion volume or poor recent trends, as candidates for reduction or pause.

  5. Model the reallocation. OpenAds proposes specific rupee moves, estimating the incremental conversions or savings each change is expected to produce.

  6. Review the proposal. You inspect each line, adjust amounts, and remove anything that conflicts with commercial context the data cannot see.

  7. Approve and execute. Approved changes are applied to the live platforms; everything else stays exactly as it was.

  8. Schedule a check-back. Set a follow-up to compare actual results against the modelled impact once enough data has accumulated.
