Data, Consent & Privacy
4 min read
A data clean room is a secure, neutral environment where two parties — say an advertiser and a platform — can match and analyse their data together without either side seeing the other’s raw, individual records. It lets companies collaborate on data while keeping personal information protected.
Both sides contribute data. Each party brings its own dataset in.
Data is matched privately. Records are joined without exposing individuals.
Only aggregates come out. Results are grouped, never person-level.
Rules govern everything. Agreed limits control what can be queried.
Audience overlap. Seeing shared customers without sharing lists.
Measurement. Attributing outcomes across partners privately.
Enrichment. Combining signals to sharpen targeting.
Planning. Understanding audiences before a campaign.
Privacy-safe collaboration. Value from data without exposing people.
Post-cookie measurement. A way to measure as tracking erodes.
Trust. Sensitive data stays protected.
Complexity and cost. They take expertise to set up and run.
Match rates. Overlap is only as good as the shared keys.
Aggregation limits. No individual-level output by design.
Governance. Rules must be agreed and enforced carefully.
