CTR, or click-through rate, is the share of people who click your ad after seeing it — clicks divided by impressions. It is one of the quickest reads on whether your creative and targeting are actually connecting with the audience in front of them.
Count impressions. Tally how many times the ad was shown.
Count clicks. Tally how many of those led to a click.
Divide. Clicks over impressions, as a percentage, is your CTR.
Read it in context. Compare against the norm for that format and placement.
Creative resonance. A strong hook lifts click-through.
Targeting fit. The right audience clicks more often.
Offer appeal. A compelling offer pulls clicks.
Ad relevance. On search, CTR signals how well you match intent.
Early signal. It flags weak creative before conversions accumulate.
Quality scores. High CTR can lower your costs on some platforms.
Testing input. It is a fast metric for comparing variations.
Clicks are not sales. High CTR with low conversion means a mismatch.
Clickbait risk. Chasing clicks can attract the wrong people.
Format skew. CTR norms differ wildly across placements.
