Data, Consent & Privacy
3 min read
Consent management is how a business collects, records and honours people’s choices about their data — the cookie banners, preference centres and the systems behind them. As privacy law tightens, it is the layer that turns respecting privacy from a slogan into an auditable, enforceable practice.
Ask clearly. People are shown a real, understandable choice.
Record the answer. Each person’s decision is logged with proof.
Enforce it downstream. Tags and tracking fire only where allowed.
Let them change it. Preferences can be updated or withdrawn anytime.
Cookies and tags. Which trackers may run.
Data sharing. What can pass to third parties.
Purposes. What the data may be used for.
Withdrawal. The right to opt out later.
Legal compliance. It is required under laws like GDPR.
Trust. Honest choices build goodwill.
Cleaner data. Consented data is safer to build on.
Consent rates. Clear choices mean some people say no.
Complexity. Rules differ by region and change often.
Enforcement. Recording consent is useless if tags ignore it.
Experience. Banners must inform without wrecking the journey.
